Happy Friday, #RIPPEDFamily! We’re so excited to announce our December R.I.P.P.E.D. MVP: Shannon Orlando from Spokane, Washington. 6 years ago, Shannon decided to try R.I.P.P.E.D. for the first time. It didn’t take long for her to fall in love with the program and become an instructor herself. Shannon took on this new challenge with grit and power, and is now sharing her experience and lifestyle with her students every week.

Discover how R.I.P.P.E.D. and RUMBLE have impacted Shannon’s life since her first class:

1. What or who got you to your first RUMBLE/R.I.P.P.E.D. class and when did you join the family?

I attended my first R.I.P.P.E.D.  class at the YMCA in 2012 with Alicia Hernandez as the instructor. I was hooked after the first time! The music, the fun, fast pace, the total body workout was so different from anything else I’d tried. I loved it! After attending R.I.P.P.E.D. classes for a few months, I heard there would be an instructor training and immediately knew I wanted to go. Even though I’d never done anything like it before, it felt like a challenge that would push me outside my comfort zone. It definitely was! I got certified by Jen O’neal in 2013, but she really made me work for it, I made videos of me teaching classes to friends in my dad’s garage and sent them to her. When I finally earned that certification, I was super excited.

2. What do you enjoy most about R.I.P.P.E.D.?

I love that it has a little of everything you need. The weights, the cardio, and the mixed martial arts all in the perfect combination to make a fun and challenging workout that never gets boring. My favorite part is Endurance, but I also love Power!

3. How has R.I.P.P.E.D./RUMBLE impacted your life? What changes do you see?

When I began R.I.P.P.E.D., I had recently lost 150lbs. Once I started regularly attending R.I.P.P.E.D., even though I didn’t lose any more weight, I built muscle and I went down 4 more sizes. R.I.P.P.E.D.  has made me so much stronger, and has given me amazing confidence.

4. How does it feel to be chosen as an MVP? How have you grown as an instructor this year?

I was elated and so surprised when I heard Tina say I’d been chosen! It’s a great honor to be recognized for teaching this program that I love with my whole heart. I love being able to share R.I.P.P.E.D.  with people and showing them that fitness can be fun. Over the last year, I became a certified RUMBLE instructor as well, and teaching both programs has stretched me to become a better, more well rounded instructor.

5. Do you have any fitness/health-related goals for this year? If so, what are they?

My health and fitness goals are to be consistent and never give up, to keep eating healthy foods, keep building muscle, and to continue encouraging my students to do the same.

6. Do you have any inspiration for people who have a desire to live a healthier lifestyle but think it’s too hard?

You know, I always say whatever exercise you choose, you have to find something you love about what you’re doing and keep doing it consistently. If you don’t love it, you won’t keep going. Who’s in charge of deciding what you love? YOU are! So find something you love about it, whether it’s how you feel mentally when you’re done, or if it’s that you love being out in the fresh air, or the people you meet while you’re exercising, choose something that will make you want to do it again and keep doing it. Before you know it, it will be a habit and you will see the results of your efforts. This is for you, and for your health. Exercise will improve your life both mentally and physically, and you deserve to experience those benefits! Go out there and get what’s yours!

Shannon is a certified instructor in both R.I.P.P.E.D. and RUMBLE at the Central YMCA in Spokane. Keep up with her and the rest of the #RIPPEDFamily through our Facebook page.
