On the Go Oats (That Taste Like Dessert!)

As I pack up for my 3 days in a hotel, I’m reminded that my meals are just as important to pack as my clothes.  I can’t stomach the idea of eating 6-7 restaurant meals knowing that food away from home generally contains a ton more calories than the meals I carefully create for myself.  The easiest way for me to stay on-plan is to make sure my snacks and breakfasts are healthy while I’m away.  How do I do that while in a hotel, you ask?  Protein bars, raw nuts and fruit are always easy to pack, and make for perfect portable snacks.  Breakfast, the most important meal of the day, on the other hand, requires a bit more creativity.  To ensure my energy is up for the weekend, I’ve made oats in a bag with my delicious new protein powder by Protizyme.  This amazing powder is low-carb, gluten and lactose-free with zero aspartame.  They also add digestive enzymes so it’s very easy on the tummy.  The flavors (chocolate cake, peanut butter cookie, vanilla cake, banana cream, anyone?) are truly to-die-for.  You can mix the powder with water and it still tastes delicious, and blended with ice and milk…well, let’s just say it’s like a milkshake.  If you like to get creative with good protein powder, give these oats a try at home, or while on the road.

Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup oats
  • 1/2 cup water or milk
  • 1/2 scoop protein powder
  • 1 Tbs chopped walnuts or coconut
  • 1/8 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 Tbs PB2 (optional)

Directions:

At home, mix the oats with water or milk and microwave for 2 minutes.  Stir in your powder and remaining additions.  If you’re on the road, place all ingredients in a Ziplock bag.  At your hotel, brew your coffee pot with no coffee filter so that you have hot water.  Place oats in a mug, pour hot water over the mixture and stir to combine.
