So, you’ve made it past the Resistance portion of your R.I.P.P.E.D. class and now you’re headed to interval training! Before you start to cool down from the killer arm workouts, we’re about to kick up the heat…literally! We’re going to dive into what interval training is and how it helps our athletes, but first let’s do a quick recap on the outline of taking a R.I.P.P.E.D. class.
R.I.P.P.E.D. is an acronym that stands for Resistance, Interval, Power, Plyometrics, Endurance and Diet. The first five letters are included in our 50-minute classes to cover each muscle group and get your body moving! Interval training is an integral part of the workout, here’s why!
What Is Interval Training?
Interval training, also known as High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) gives our athletes a killer body-boosting workout in just 6-9 minutes during our classes! Intervals are short and powerful routines that get the body sweating quickly, and burns calories hours after the workout is done. The intervals that we incorporate in our R.I.P.P.E.D. classes involve jumping, kicking and punching to add some cardio. Say hello to your new friend, burpees!
How Does HIIT Affect Our Bodies?
HIIT workouts are designed to warm up the body and get your heart rate up fast! There’s no need for running miles to get in your cardio for the day, with HIIT training, the explosive movements keep your heart rate up and burns more fat in less time.
By going all out and giving 100 percent effort followed by short periods of rest, your body will take more time to recover, leading to what is called ‘the after-burn effect’. This effect is referred to as Excess Post-Exercise Oxygen Consumption (EPOC) and is the reason why intense exercise will help burn more fat and calories than regular steady exercise.
Why Do We HIIT It Up in R.I.P.P.E.D.?
When planning R.I.P.P.E.D. classes, we made sure to strategize to get the most out of the 50 minutes. Incorporating interval training was a no brainer, the quick and explosive movement will not only adequately warm up the body, but the body will be craving more!
Now that you know everything there is to know about interval training and HIIT, it’s time to take your knowledge to the gym! Our trainers and instructors are with you every step of the way during each class to make sure you get the best workout. Find a R.I.P.P.E.D. class near you today!
